The scenic Owhyee River begins in Nevada and runs through some of the wildest and most untouched land in the lower 48 states. The forks come together in Eastern Oregon, south of Rome Station and run under Highway 95, past a small farming community before falling into the deep river canyon extending north to the Owhyee Reservoir. This stretch of river is designated at Wild and Scenic, is a favorite for floating and camping in the spring and early summer, and the Owyhee area ranks in the top 1 percent of all western U.S. lands for dark night skies.
